Amazon Book Sourcing Case Study: “Trash cash” – the interview

By Peter Valley 10 Comments

Here is Part 1 of a 3-part series on book sourcing…

Book Sourcing Case Study #1

Here is the first of three book sourcing case studies I’m publishing in succession. Each case study will be a downloadable PDF report for you to download, print (or not), and study.

“Book Sourcing Case Study #1” features a 5-page interview with Jeremy, who makes $3,000 a month… and his inventory is 100% free. How is that possible?

Early on in the life of FBA Mastery, I teased a future interview with someone who makes $36,000 a year sourcing books entirely from dumpsters. After tons of delays and pestering him for an interview, it has finally materialized in this report (download below). This is the full interview, the full story behind it, and why it took so long…

The full story is in the PDF (download at the link below), but here’s the short version:

I’ve known Jeremy for awhile. A couple summers ago I went to visit for the first time since I began selling on Amazon full time. I shared with him a little of my formula, and proceeded to bring hundreds of books to his house during my visit.

One of my scores that week was from the dumpsters of the library directly next door to his house. He watched me price and list, and asked a few questions, but didn’t seem terribly interested. Little did I know, he was quietly taking notes, plotting his new business, and an escape from his office job.

Fast forward 6 weeks, Jeremy was making $500 a week, and a month or two after that had grown to just over $3,000 a month in Amazon payments. What is so special about this?

1. His inventory is entirely free.
2. 100% of his inventory is from dumpsters.

So here it is…

Maybe I’m looking at something different, but I can’t seem to get an active link…only text. The only PDF I was able to download was about “Recycler Riches…” but it isn’t in interview format. Am I looking at something else, or is that the interview you’re referring to?

    Thanks in Advance! 🙂

That was a strange glitch. Looks like some of you got a sneak preview of Book Sourcing Case Study #2. I fixed the link.

I am really interested in dumpster diving but I’m scared to do it by myself haha. I’m not clear on the laws in the nearby town that I could potentially dive at so I asked the county ordinance people about it and I’m awaiting their response. I just got my Amazon account back and I don’t have much money so I could use some free books to get started on FBA.

If dumpster diving were an arrestable offense, I’d be serving a life sentence at this point.

      Just do it.
